Squash Club Championships 2019 – Finals Day
Seigo Masuda is the new WRFC Squash Club Champion! Seigo ended Phil Rushworth’s run of six championships-in-a-row on Saturday in a pulsating 3-2 victory. The match was played in front of a full house behind court 2 and they were not to be disappointed with the quality and drama that unfolded.
Seigo has been a member of WRFC for over 14 years and everyone could see what it meant to him both during the match and in his closing speech at the presentation ceremony. Seigo paid tribute to Phil for being there from the first day he walked through the door of the Cranbrook Road club, and for his help and support in progressing his squash career.
Head of Squash, Phil Rushworth, also commented “That final was seriously hard and Seigo totally deserved it. It’s a strange feeling to lose a final when you are absolutely delighted for your opponent. Having known Seigo since he was 10 years old and seeing his love, energy and dedication to squash there is no one more I’d rather lose the title to and I am so proud of him.”
In the Ladies event Natalie Machin retained her title for the second year in a row. Natalie defeated WRFC junior academy player Tora Hovland in straight games during a match which saw plenty of exciting rallies and a very high level of Ladies squash.
The club championship squash finals day was a huge success and included 18 finals in total across all the various categories. A big thank you to all the players that competed this year, the squash committee for pulling the whole event together and the staff at WRFC for their long hours during the champs.
Congratulations to all the players that took part in the games on finals day to make it such an enjoyable spectacle for all that came down to watch!
