Dear Members The tournament event of the year is back with the Wimbledon Summer Team Badminton now taking place on 7th & 8th August. This event has been running for 15 years and it’s a fantastic standard badminton event where teams battle it out in a hybrid format. The standard is amazing and includes international players, masters world champions and current top ranked players in England including our very own Luke Pearce and Ben Hunt who have both been Top 10 ranked singles players. I want to encourage those of you that can to come along and watch this fantastic event. Play starts 9.30am on Saturday 7th August and will run to about 5.30pm. Sunday 8th August play will start around 10.30 am and run to 4pm. We are also holding a party in the evening for those who want to attend. We will have a hog roast and disco/party…
Toby Penty a club member has just qualified for The Olympics in Tokyo. Toby started at Wimbledon Racquets club when he was 15 playing in the junior sessions on Saturdays before rising up through the ranks of the Performance Centre in the High Performance Centre here at the club. He finally got his calling to the National centre at 19 but returned to the club to train back in 2016 when GB lost its funding. He has trained here ever since and has now qualified as the No1 GB player in Mens singles. If you see him around give him a Pat on the back, from 1 metre distance.
