Performance Centre/Elite

Number 1 Performance Centre in England (BE PC review April 2017).

Wimbledon Racquets & Fitness Club (WR&FC) was first accredited as a Performance Centre by Badminton England in 2008 becoming one of the first clubs in the country to be given this status.  To begin with WR&FC only offered sessions on a Saturday.

As the Performance Centre grew, more sessions were required and in 2011 weekday sessions were put in place for players that wanted access to additional training ensuring they could compete at the highest level.  Through these sessions WR&FC has seen some of the country’s best players come through the system and becoming top international players, such as former England international and current Head of Badminton Ben Beckman.

In 2014, further changes were made to the weekday sessions.  A new coaching team was brought in and communication amongst coaches was increased so that players flowed through the programme much better.

In 2016, Badminton England rated WR&FC Performance Centre as a 5/5 Gold Standard Tier 1 becoming one of only two Performance Centres in the country to hold this status.  Not content with this in 2017 even more sessions have been included to our junior performance programme so that we now have 2 sessions per week for each ability group.  On top of this an even stronger coaching team has been employed to ensure our players receive the best training. This coaching team consists of current and former top English players. Within our current set up we have National Champions and host most of the county’s top players such as Will Jones, Tom Soderstrom, Alex Green, Sofia Nicolson and plenty more.
